Liberty Resources Awarded One Of New York State’s Safe Options Support Program Grants

Program will support individuals living with mental illness who are homeless and unsheltered in Monroe County

SYRACUSE, NY (June 1, 2023) – Liberty Resources was awarded a grant from the New York State Office of Mental Health to establish a Safe Options Support (SOS) program in Monroe County.  The SOS program provides intensive outreach, engagement and services to individuals living with mental illness who are homeless and unsheltered.

The SOS team at Liberty Resources will be comprised of licensed clinicians, care managers, and peer specialists.  They will collaborate with local government, community providers, hospitals, law enforcement, and others to identify and work with high-risk individuals. The program will be based out of the Liberty Resources’ Rochester clinic, located at 145 N Winton Rd.

“We are honored to be selected as a recipient of this grant, which will enable us to further our mission of empowering individuals to overcome adversity and provide them with the resources needed for a safer life,” said Marta Durkin, Vice President of Liberty Resources’ Behavioral Health Services.  “Liberty Resources aims to create lasting positive change in the lives of those it serves through the SOS program.”

The Safe Options Support program was originally piloted in New York City with 10 outreach teams to assist to individuals on the streets and subways.  Through this expansion, the New York State Office of Mental Health is establishing seven additional teams throughout the state in areas experiencing high rates of street homelessness.
