Program Description |
The HIV Counseling Program, better known as HCP Services, began in 1998 and expanded in 2005. The program offers chemical dependency/substance abuse and mental health assessment and counseling, housing case management and independent living skills training to homeless persons living with, and/or affected with HIV/AIDS.
A team of Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselors (CASAC), Housing Specialist and Independent Living Skills staff provide assessment, treatment readiness, risk reduction education, individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, referral, relapse prevention and some limited case management to persons involved in HCP Services.
HCP services are provided on an outreach basis within existing housing and nutritional service settings. Services are offered in a manner, which supports low threshold access to individuals who have not made a successful connection or ongoing commitment to available mental health treatment and/or recovery programs.
