April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

Denim Day

April is Sexual Assault Awareness month! Liberty Resources’ Victims of Violence Program (VOV) is asking everyone to participate in this year’s Denim Day. Denim Day began in 1992 when the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction due to the fact that the victim was wearing tight jeans. To the justices this suggested that she must have helped her rapist remove them, and that meant that it was consensual. The next day the women in the Italian Parliament showed their solidarity for the victim by wearing jeans to work. Since then the Peace Over Violence program has continued to hold Denim Day one Wednesday in April to protest against the negative attitudes about sexual assault. You too can show your support to survivors and be part of the solution to end sexual violence! Just Bring $5.00 or sign up for payroll deduction through SharePoint using this link –> (Denim Day Payroll Deduction). Wear your jeans and the color teal (the color for Sexual Assault Awareness Month) on Wednesday April 29th, 2015. Your $5 will help VOV purchase outreach materials that will help us to get the word out about sexual violence so that others will join us in taking a stand against sexual assault!
